The roots of Isuzu Motors were established in 1916 when the Ishikawajima company and the Tokyo Gas and Electric Industrial Company decided to work together to build motor vehicles. Since then, the company has established itself as a leading player in the pickup and commercial vehicle sectors. Early home-grown products, like the '62 Bellel and '63 Bellet, contain the word 'bell' because translated into English, Isuzu means 'fifty bells' — the sound of the water flowing in the Isuzu River. And, like the river it was named after, more than a century later, the production lines at Isuzu are still steadily flowing.
