EV public charging
Charging in public explained
If you want to charge your electric car or plug-in hybrid on the go, you can use public charging points. You will need a charge card for this. We offer the Shell charge card, which can be used at home, at work and at public charging stations.
Your charge card gives you access to an extensive network of public charging points in Europe. There are currently more than 330,000 public charging stations in Europe, more than 32,000 of which are located in Belgium. You'll always find a charging station near you.

Finding a public charging point
This interactive map shows you all the electric charging stations in Belgium with details on the connector type, charging speed, rates and payment methods. Simply click on each station icon for more information.
If the icon is green, the charging station is available. If it is red, it is busy or out of use. Grey means that we do not have up-to-date information on this charging station.
- Fast-charging points
Fast-charging points have fixed cables with different types of plugs. So you don't need your own charging cable for this. Attach the charging cable in the car. You can easily start and stop charging with your charge card.
How much does it cost to charge in public?
The costs for charging via your Shell charge card from LeasePlan are settled at a fixed rate per kWh based on the average cost price in the market. Shell adjusts this fixed rate according to fluctuations.
Charging sessions done abroad are not included. Prices abroad vary per charging point. Depending on the operator, prices may be based on:
- 1.Starting fee (one-time): an amount that is charged before the start of a session. These starting fees can be combined with other pricing models.
- 2.Minute-based charging: you will receive an invoice based on the time your car is connected to the charging point. So you also pay when charging is complete and your EV remains at the charging station.
- 3.Charging per kWh and based on time: your cost is calculated based on the kWh consumption in combination with the parking time at the charging station.
