Citroën's all-new city car will first be available as an electric vehicle. It is the first B-segment car to dive below the €25,000 mark, while still providing 320 kilometres of driving range
The C3 is one of Citroën’s most iconic models. It accounts for almost a third of the brand's sales volume in Europe. So, when it passes the torch to the next generation, it is a momentous occasion – all the more so now that the C3 is launched as an all-electric vehicle for the first time.
Refreshing design, high comfort
The newcomer's looks are completely different from those of its predecessors. Whereas the previous generations were hatchbacks with an MPV flavour, the new C3 clearly draws inspiration from the SUV universe. The driving position in the new C3 is also 10 centimetres higher than in the average city car in the segment. Moreover, it inaugurates the new, distinctive Citroën brand identity, including the new oval logo and a reinterpretation of the typical Citroën chevrons.
Comfort has always come first at Citroën. The new C3 is even entitled to the brand specific Advanced Comfort suspension with progressive hydraulic cushions, which until now were the prerogative of larger Citroën models. The Citroën Advanced Comfort seats with extra foam padding are also on offer - or at least on the Max version – raising expectations even higher.
New platform, good charging performance
Citroen's new C3 is built on Stellantis' "Smart Car" platform. This is designed specifically for electric cars, but it doesn’t exclude the integration of an internal combustion engine. The ë-C3's electric drive is ensured by an 83 kW motor and a 44-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. Measured under WLTP conditions, this combination should provide 320-kilometres worth of driving range.
Charging the battery at a fast charger can be done at 100 kW – a remarkable output in this vehicle category. 26 minutes suffice to boost the state of charge from 20 to 80 percent. Its on-board charger can handle alternating current at 7 or at 11 kW, depending on whether it is single- or three-phase. A bit less than three hours are enough to reach 80 percent SoC provided the battery is still 20 percent full.
Two versions
The C3 range consists of two versions. The "You" base model features the Citroën Advanced Comfort suspension, a head-up display, cruise control, manual air conditioning and rear parking sensors as standard. The "Max" version indulges itself with 17-inch alloys, a two-tone body, a colour touchscreen with smartphone mirroring, Citroën Advanced Comfort seats, automatic air conditioning, 3D sat nav and a wireless smartphone charger, among others.
The car will be built in Trnava, Slovakia, and will arrive at Stellantis distributors from the second quarter of 2024.
