Frequently asked questions
We would like to keep you on the move. Anytime. Anywhere.
Since July 2020, the international motor insurance card is no longer green but printed on white paper and sent to you or your employer. In addition, your insurance document is always available to you on My LeasePlan in digital form. You will find the document under the heading 'Vehicle' and then in the left-hand column under 'Documents'.
We recommend that you also send a copy to all occasional users. You must always be able to produce this card in the event of an inspection or accident. This insurance card is valid in all countries which are not crossed out in the list of countries on the card.
You must be able to present the following documents at all times in the event of a police inspection:
- Registration certificate
- Certificate of conformity
- Vehicle inspection certificate (if your vehicle has been inspected) A digital version of the insurance certificate has also been a valid format since 1 July 2020.
The registration certificate is your vehicle's identity card. In the event of loss or theft, you must report it to the police. You should take the following with you:
- Your vehicle (to check the chassis number)
- Your identity card
- A certificate from LeasePlan confirming that you're the main driver of the car. You can find this on My LeasePlan If you're abroad, you should go to the local authorities and then to the Belgian police upon your return.
You will receive a certificate from the Belgian police concerning your claim. This certificate is only valid for a limited period of time; please provide us with the original document as soon as possible. If you're not insured through LeasePlan, we also need a vignette from your insurer.
We will use these documents to request a new registration certificate from the Vehicle Registration Service (DIV). Keep in mind that a new registration certificate will incur a fee.
The certificate of conformity allows the manufacturer to demonstrate that the vehicle complies with technical and legal requirements. If this document is lost or stolen, you must report it to the police.
You should take the following with you:
- Your vehicle (to check the chassis number)
- Your identity card
- A certificate from LeasePlan confirming that you're the main driver of the car. You can find this on My LeasePlan
With regard to the theft or loss certificate, we request a duplicate from the vehicle manufacturer. The manufacturer's price for the duplicate will be charged.
On 1 July 2020, the green card was replaced by a white insurance certificate.
You can download an electronic version of the document via My LeasePlan. We recommend that you also print the insurance certificate on blank, white paper and keep it with the vehicle's on-board documents.
You will find the document under the "Vehicle" hub and then under "Documents" in the left-hand column.
If you use the lease car to travel to or through a country outside the Schengen Area, you need permission from the owner of the vehicle. The certificate will then be legitimised by the government.
How can you obtain this certificate? Once LeasePlan has received approval from your fleet manager, you can apply for this certificate online from our partner Renta at www.rentadrive.org. Please note that this document will incur a fee. The cost price is stated on this website.
Make sure you have the following documents to hand when applying for your certificate:
- Your identity card or passport
- The vehicle registration certificate
- Your bank card, MasterCard, Visa or other payment card
The Drive certificate will be sent to you in digital format one week following receipt of your payment. The certificate is issued with a visa from the Chamber of Commerce and an apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Also check your insurance certificate to be sure that the cover is valid for the countries concerned. Please get in touch with us if this is not the case.
