Shell Recharge charging chip and app
If you have subscribed to the LeasePlan "charging chip" service you will receive your personal login credentials for the Shell Recharge charging app automatically by e-mail from LeasePlan, shortly before your new company car is delivered. You can then use the app straight away to recharge your vehicle in the German and European Shell Recharge network.
Your personal charging chip will be posted to you a few days later.
No. Simply hold the Shell Recharge charging chip in front of the reader on the charging station. As long as the charging card is registered, you can start using it straight away.

You can use the LeasePlan Shell Recharge charging chip to recharge your electric vehicle in the Shell Recharge charging infrastructure in Germany and Europe. Shell Recharge provides access to 100% of all publicly available charging points in Germany and 98% of publicly available charging points in Europe.
Different access media are used for charging stations. With the LeasePlan Shell Recharge charging chip and the Shell Recharge app, you can charge without cash at 100% of the available charging points in Germany and 98% of the available charging points in Europe. Access media available at the station are displayed in the Shell Recharge app. In the app you can start and end charging processes easily via your smartphone.
Charging processes can be initiated with the charging chip or the Shell Recharge app. There are now some charging points that can only be started with the app. The app not only has a charging function, it also provides information about charging point locations and prices. Since the charging price models differ considerably, we recommend that you check the prices in the app before charging to prevent high costs being incurred.
You can only see the price per charging process, minute or kWh in the Shell Recharge app.
If you experience a technical problem, please call the charging station operator’s hotline. In the Shell Recharge app, select the public charging station where you want to charge your vehicle. You can call the charging station operator from the app if there’s a technical problem. LeasePlan assumes no responsibility for the operation of a charging station. The operator has sole responsibility for this.
If the charging station operator determines that the charging station is free of technical defects, please call the LeasePlan driver service hotline: +49 211 91358221. You’ll be able to resolve problems with your charging chip via the hotline. If possible, try the charging chip at another charging station to see whether it works there.
Yes. The costs are billed to your company car account. Please contact your fleet manager in advance for information about your employer’s specific rules.
The LeasePlan Shell Recharge charging chip allows you to charge your vehicle abroad. As long as a charging station is listed in the app, you can charge your vehicle there as usual. However, your employer may have certain rules for charging abroad that we’re not aware of, so you should check with your fleet manager before you travel to a another country. Prices abroad can vary greatly as there are no common pricing guidelines for charging electricity tariffs. So please make sure you check the price before every charge.
In the Shell Recharge app you can find the following information:
- address of the charging station (incl. location on the map)
- distance between you and the charging station in km
- opening times (if the charging station isn’t publicly accessible)
- connection types and charging capacities
- price list
- information about the charging station operator
- navigation function with the option to incorporate charging breaks in the route
