Frequently asked questions

- 1.
Accelerate smoothly - if your car has an 'eco range' - do make use of this to save energy. Using cruise control to change speeds when the speed limit changes can prevent the temptation to 'step on it'.
- 2.
AC and heating - it's best to go easy on both of these. In the winter, running the heater drains electric. If you have a heated steering wheel and heated seats, it's better to make use of these to save electric. You can also pre-heat your car while it's plugged in.
During the summer, you can pre-cool the car.
- 1.
Aim to travel lightly - empty your vehicle from unwanted weight as this can also reduce your range including external items like roof racks when they're not in use.
- 2.
Use the most-efficient route - if you can, it's best to avoid motorways (due to their high speed), and instead, find a route that requires a more steady pace of driving.
Personal driving style, the weather, how much you use the heating/AC, the weight of your vehicle (should you choose to add exterior accessories such as a roof rack), how heavy your boot is as well as how much attention you give to your tyres can all affect the range compared to the advertised range.
If you take into consideration the above, you can expect to reach within 80 - 90% of the range advertised - subject to the external temperature. It's also possible that once the car becomes accustomed to the way you drive and your journeys, the range can increase.
